The "New Jersey Online Boating Course" is the first NJ State Police, Marine Services Bureau, approved and authorized online boating safety course. It is recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard. Passing this course enables you to operate your boat or Jet Ski legally in New Jersey and the USA!

GET YOUR NEW JERSEY BOATER CARD IN 3 EASY STEPS:

  1. Pass the New Jersey Online Boating Course by completing each of the 7 chapters and print your "Proof of Completion". Study at your own pace - there is no expiration.
  2. Schedule an appointment to take your final in-person exam. Click the "Final Exam" above to see a list of locations, dates and times.
  3. Show your "Proof of Completion" and ID at a testing center. There is a testing fee of $20.00 which is paid to the instructor at the testing site. The final exam must be taken in-person and a passing score of 70% or better is required.

Who is Required to Have a Boating Safety Course?
In New Jersey, all persons operating any powerboat or PWC (jet ski, sea doo, etc)  must have proof of passing an approved boating safety education course. All operators born
in 1949 and later must posses an approved boating safety education course certificate; and by June 1, 2009 every power vessel operator in New Jersey must posses a certificate.

Persons taking a boating safety course may be 10 years of age or older but must wait until they are at least 13 to obtain their New Jersey boating certificate. Click here for Age and Operator information.

 How does the online boating course program work?

Once you pass the NJ Online Boating Course and are in possession of a "Proof of Completion" document, you are then eligible to take the final in-person exam and receive your NJ approved boating safety certificate.
NOTE: The final exam fee of $20.00 is paid to the instructor at the time of testing.
